Submitting an Application at a Diplomatic Mission Outside Your Country of Origin

Under certain circumstances, it is possible to submit an application for a residence permit at a diplomatic mission other than the one located in your country of origin1.

Applications for residence permits are subject to the principle of local consular jurisdiction. Based on this principle, third-country nationals may submit their applications at a diplomatic mission in the country of which they are nationals, or:

  • in the country that issued their Travel Document, or
  • in the country where they hold a long-term or permanent residence permit.

This rule does not apply to nationals of countries listed in Decree No. 429/2010 Coll. issued by the Ministry of the Interior. Nationals of these countries may submit their applications at any Czech diplomatic mission. The list of these countries is available on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
