The Purpose of Residence

The Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals in the Territory of the Czech Republic assumes that residence of all foreigners, except permanent residence, must be substantiated by a purpose.  That is why when submitting most types of the applications for a residence permit it is required to submit the document proving the purpose of residence alongside it.

The purpose means the main activity which a foreigner carries out while in the Czech Republic. For example, this could be studies, employment, business, reunification with family member, etc.

Failing to prove and fulfil the purpose of residence is usually the reason for termination of the residence permit, and can be the cause for rejection of  application for its extension.
