Warning against fraudulent practices

The Ministry of the Interior is warning of an increase in fraudulent practices.

This article highlights reported frauds and gives advice on what to do if in doubt.

False writings (e.g. notices to pay fines not issued)

These letters can look like official notices from the Ministry of the Interior to pay a fine. The writers state in the letter that failure to pay the fine will result in the cancellation of the residence permit. If you have any doubts about the authenticity of the notice you have received, contact your catchment office of the Ministry of the Interior or the Client Centre for Providing Information to Foreigners

Fraudulent websites

We are seeing an increase in fake websites claiming to be the official websites of the Citizen Portal, Citizen Identity Portal and Public Administration Portal. These websites try to extort sensitive information from users such as online banking login details. In addition to SMS messages and e-mails, links to these websites also appear in Internet search engine advertisements.

If in doubt, contact the Digital and Information Agency hotline on +420 227 023 444.

Fraudulent phone calls

There are also still warnings about fraudulent phone calls. Callers introduce themselves as employees of official authorities (Foreign Police, Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, KACPU, etc.) and try to extract banking or other sensitive information from the person they are calling. Be cautious and never disclose such information about your person over the phone. Employees of the Ministry of the Interior will not ask you for this information.
